LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The tennis court of a pioneer coach in Lynchburg is nearly fully restored.

Dr. Robert Walter Johnson built the tennis courts originally in 1941 because he felt not enough-African Americans were involved in the sport. He trained professionals and those who still live in the community, but his courts stopped being used when he died in 1971.

Then, two non-profits came together to donate more than $100,000 for the courts.
